Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticised the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for allegedly keeping a suspect for nine days without bail.

He argued that it is extremely wrong to keep a suspect for that long period without granting him bail.

“BNI (NIB) has somebody in custody on the 9th day, over this fake news, this one is worse than the Abronye one,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, October 5.

Martin Kpebu expressed the fear that the NIB could one day become a monster if care is not taken, given the way and manner they handle their affairs.

“If we don’t sit up, it will grow into a monster,” he said.

He further made the point that the Constitution Review Committee should perhaps begin to consider suggestions to amend the powers of the NIB, especially the mode of appointment of the leadership.

“I now see why the NPP were right in doing that demonstration [against arrest and detention]. Let us see if it is possible for us to add them to the constitutional amendment,” he said.
