The Manhyia District Police Command has apprehended two persons in connection with the unlawful possession and transportation of substances suspected to be narcotics at the Asawase Market in Kumasi.
In a statement signed by Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, he said the intelligence-led operation was conducted on July 21, 2026, following credible information that suspected narcotic were being transported in concealed fertilizer sacks.
A team led by the District Commander, with personnel from the Manhyia Divisional Criminal Investigations Department and Zongo Police Station, proceeded to the location and arrested the two suspects.
The suspects have been identified as Osman Bassein, 37, and Mohammed Abdul-Razak, 38.
During a search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, Police retrieved thirteen fertilizer sacks. Inspection revealed second-hand clothing concealing one hundred compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The exhibits were photographed at the scene in accordance with evidential procedures and have been secured for forensic examination.
“The two suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations. They will be processed in accordance with the law, subject to the outcome of the investigations,” the Command stated.
The Regional Command has also commended members of the public for providing timely and credible information.
