The Ashanti Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for unknown gunmen who robbed residents of Abuakwa and kidnapped one Doris Agyei, an accountant at Mpasatia Senior High School.

The incident which happened, around 1am Wednesday, August 17, has put fear in residents.

Family sources say they’ve been contacted by the unknown gunmen and a ransom of GH₵20,000.00 is being demanded for her release.

According to reports, the robbers couldn’t enter the apartment throug the gate but broke through a window.

The apartment is a twin two bedroom edifice that houses two families. Report says both families were robbed before Doris was taken away, after the husband and children had been dragged outside by the robbers.

Speaking to TV3’s Ibrahim Abubakar Wednesday on Midday Live, residents of the area noted because the enclave is a new community, they’ve been battling robbers without any response to their call for security improvement.

“This is not the first time. It has happened before. But this one is so serious. We’ve been complaining but they (police) have not been listening to us. They should come to our rescue in dealing with these people,” a resident told Ibrahim.

Ibrahim reports further that Doris’s husband’s mother (mother-in-law) has said they have been called and asked to send 20k before they release her.

According to an eyewitness who is also a tenant of the house, they heard the robbers had fled with Doris the time they heard the noise and got to the scene.

The perpetrators, who were two, according to the husband of Doris, were young guys who are between their mid 20s to early 30s.

The police are currently working tirelessly to get the robbers to face the full rigors of the law.
