The respective Queens for the various products in the Kumasi markets have reacted to the assertion by one Hajia, the Queen of alata samina sellers in Central market that they have been given money by the government to expand their businesses.

Nana Yaa Fowaah, Queen of yam sellers and the entire Central Market –who have now been relocated to the Racecourse market –has reacted bitterly to the claim saying no leader of the market associations have been given any money.

Speaking on the Thursday edition of Onua TV/Akoma FM’s Peoples’ Assembly, Nana Fowaah explained that they had to use their own monies to fix places for themselves at the Racecourse market without a dime from the government.

Also, because other people have been selling on the roadside, their products are not being patronised aside from the poor roads that are deterring customers from coming to the market.

“I was there yesterday and got informed that some of my market women have come to say we have been given money by the government to expand our businesses. So I decided to come here today to clarify things. I am the Queen of all yam sellers and leader of the entire Central market.

“Nana Asantehemaa who owns all the markets in Kumasi has chosen me to represent her and anything that comes to the market women must come through me. But we have not been given any money after spending our own monies to secure places for ourselves at the Racecourse market.,” she explained.

Other market queens for the respective products at the markets also expressed their views on the money saying they haven’t heard anything about the said monies.
