The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has paid glowing tribute to Private Sarfo Agyapong Collins, the NAIMOS officer who lost his life in Tuesday’s tragic operational accident near the Obuasi Airport enclave.
The Minister described the late soldier as “a true patriot who served his country with honour, courage and unwavering dedication.”
The Minister made the remarks when he led a government delegation to the family home of the deceased to commiserate with them.
He assured the relatives of government’s full support during this difficult period, adding that the state remains committed to assisting the officers who were injured in the incident.
The Minister also led officials from the Ministry to the headquarters of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) to sign the Book of Condolence in honour of the fallen officer.

The visit formed part of government’s broader effort to honour the memory of personnel who put their lives on the line to protect Ghana’s natural resources.
Describing the incident as a “painful blow” to Ghana’s ongoing fight against illegal mining, the Ministry emphasized that Private Agyapong Collins’ sacrifice underscores the risks and challenges faced by frontline officers involved in anti-galamsey operations across the country.
The Minister further conveyed the heartfelt sympathies of President John Dramani Mahama to the bereaved family and the entire NAIMOS fraternity.
He noted that the late officer embodied the highest values of patriotism and professionalism, and his loss would be deeply felt within the security and natural resources sectors.

According to the Ministry, four other NAIMOS officers who sustained injuries during the operation are currently receiving medical treatment. Government has assured them of continuous support, along with their families, as they recover.
Officials say Private Sarfo Agyapong Collins will be remembered as a committed public servant whose dedication and sacrifice will forever remain a symbol of the nation’s collective struggle to safeguard its environment and resources.
For his part, the Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Gbetanu said, Private Agyapong will be accorded a full military send off as per the military standard.
