The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has revoked 278 small-scale mining licenses nationwide for violating mining regulations and expired operational permits.

This was announced by the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Media Relations Officer, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, in a Facebook post on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

The move by the Minister forms part of the government’s renewed effort to bring order and accountability to the small-scale mining sector.

Mr. Schandorf explained that the revocation targeted operators who failed to meet environmental and safety requirements or continued mining activities beyond their license validity period.

The action underlines the Minister’s stance on restoring discipline in the sector due to government’s concern over galamsey, and its effects on Ghana’s environment and water bodies.

As part of a larger plan to encourage environmentally conscious and sustainable mining operations, this most recent move indicates the government’s harder approach to industry reform.
