Director of Mining at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources who is also an advisor to the Minister, Dr. Benjamin Aryee, has said the Ministry is vulnerable in its quest to fight illegal mining also known as ‘galamsey’.
According to him, “anybody who takes up a fight against illegal mining is vulnerable because it is big money business.”
Speaking on Maakye on Onua TV Monday, May 20, 2024, Mr. Aryee said anybody that intends fighting the canker would be antagonised by those benefiting from it, making the ministry’s effort to end the menace difficult.
When asked by host, Captain Smart, if the Ministry is vulnerable in the fight, he said “yes, in the sense that you’re trying to stop an illegality, those who are benefiting therefore personality would not want you to be there.”
