The Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has stressed the urgent need for Africa to harness the full potential of climate action as a driver of resilience and prosperity.
Speaking at the 2nd Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on September 9, the Vice President reiterated Ghana’s commitment to tackling climate change.
“Our focus must be on turning climate risks into opportunities through innovation, green growth, and sustainable practices. Africa cannot afford to be a mere consumer of technology; we must become contributors and leaders in climate solutions,” Prof Opoku-Agyemang said.

Professor Jane Opoku-Agyemang called on leaders to invest in nature-based solutions and emulate successful initiatives such as Ethiopia’s 40 billion trees project, which demonstrates the transformative power of local action.

She also stated that climate policies must be grounded in regional cooperation, partnerships, and a strong sense of shared responsibility across the continent.

The Vice President stressed that Africa’s climate agenda must not only reduce vulnerabilities but also empower communities to thrive sustainably.
‘’Ghana stands ready, together with our neighbours and partners, to advance this vision with courage and innovation.’’ She indicated.
