President John Dramani Mahama has charged the new Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, to immediately start the building blocks in the sector, perhaps from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
According to President Mahama, he wants the Buem Member of Parliament to inject transparency, professionalism and modernity in the sector especially for a country known in the past for its sports.
President Mahama gave this charge on Friday, February 7 when he swore in 17 ministers including Kofi Adams as the Minister of Sports and Recreation.
The former National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had his vetting on Thursday, January 30 and was approved by Parliament exactly a week later.
After administering the oath of office and allegiance and handing the instrument of office, President Mahama urged his new Sports Minister to restore the country to its pride of place.
“I don’t envy your job,” he stated.
“You have the monumental task of restoring Ghana to its pride of place in African and world sports.
“The shambles that is Ghana sports today is completely unacceptable. For a county with that pedigree, I expect that you inject transparency, professionalism and modernity into the management of the sector.
“I expect that you will concentrate on building up all the sporting disciplines and I know the Ghana Football Association will be a good place to start, to work to make sure we return Black Star to its glory days.”
With his swearing-in done, work begins for the Sports and Recreation Minister.
