President John Dramani Mahama has named Charles Alhassan Kipo as Director General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) formerly known as the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

A statement from the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, issued Wednesday, January 15, 2025, contained the announcement with three other persons for other positions in the National Security.

The Kwakye Ofosu-signed statement added that “the appointments reflect President Mahama’s commitment to enhancing national security and ensuring the safety of citizens.”

Educational Background

Charles Alhassan Kipo hold a Master of Philosophy in Global Leadership at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in 2015.

He also obtained a Master of Arts – Conflict Resolution at the Bradford University in UK. 2005.

Mr. Kipo also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Geography and Resource Development with Archaeology at the University of Ghana in 1996.

The NIB boss in 2003 obtained an Advanced “Counter Intelligence Activity Training” in Moscow, Russia.

He completed Tamale Secondary School in Tamale in 1991 for his Advanced Level certificate after his Ordinary Level at the Saint Charles Secondary School, Tamale in 1989.

Work Experience

Charles Kipo has worked with the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) from 1999 till date.

Between 1998-99, he served as Assistant Project Officer (APO) at the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) in Wa, the Upper West regional capital.

In February 1997, he worked as and taught Geography at Damongo Secondary School.
