The Majority side of the Communications Committee of Parliament has rejected call by the Minority Caucus for the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George to be dismissed over the DStv impasse.
The Minority on Thursday, October 2, 2025, called for the dismissal of Sam George over the manner in which he handled the MultiChoice debucle.
Deputy Ranking on the Communications and Information Committee, Charles Asuako Owuredu said “by adopting an arbitrary decision-making posture, the Minister is also denying regulators such as the NCA the opportunity to perform their work according to law which clearly threatens the growth of this sensitive industry.”
“His actions also signal a breach of the President’s code of conduct that requires candor and respect for all persons,” he stated.
At a media briefing in Accra on Friday, October 3, 2025, Chairman of the Committee, Adam Sulemana, said contrary to the former Communication Minister under the previous NPP administration, Sam George has demonstrated competence and acted in the interest of Ghanaians.
He called on Ghanaians to support the Minister in his works as the Minority Caucus has no justification to demand the dismissal of Sam George.
“As members of the majority caucus of the Communications committee, we recognized the Minority’s concerns, we, however, emphatically disagree with their position and their call for the removal of the Minister for Communication.
“There is nothing irregular about the Minister’s engagement with MultiChoice and there’s absolutely no justification for the call on the Minister to resign. The minister has acted within his mandate and continues to provide the needed leadership to stabilize and guide the sector,” he stated.
The Majority Caucus argued that it is “unfounded” for members of the Minority to demand the resignation of Sam George when Ministers under the previous NPP administration “signed opaque deals” and acted against the mandates of the law but did not resign.
They went ahead to even cite former President’s Akufo-Addo’s famous promise to put his presidency on the line to end illegal mining, yet remained in office.
“The call on Honourable Sam George to resign is unfounded. For the records, a whole President put his Presidency on the line to fight galamsey, he failed, but he did not resign.
“A Minister of State said he was not thinking right in procuring vaccines, he did not resign. The former Minister for Communication signed opaque deals; Kelni GVG, Smart Infraco, ASEN Ghana and the rest, she never resigned. Nobody called on her to resign.
“How do you call on a Minister who has achieved success in just a little over 8 months to resign. We call on Ghanaians to disregard the call on the Minister to resign and rally behind him in his attempt to look for better deals for Ghanaians in the communication space,” he added.
