Member of Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has shared the Minority in Parliament’s decision to continue with its one-sided motion against the governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, despite the Majority’s decision abstain from same.

Speaking on TV3’s Ghana Tonight Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa said the Majority in Ghana’s 8th Parliament has never supported any motion filed by the Minority.

He noted he is therefore not surprised the leader of the caucus, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has disclosed that he will not support any such motion that would be filed by the Minority against Dr. Addison.

“All motions filed by the Minority have always been a one-sided notion. Besides, there is nothing in our standing orders against a one-sided motion. The Minority is going to put Ghanaians first ahead of a one-sided politics,” he argued.

However, Mr Ablakwa accused the Majority caucus of being partisan and not centered on national interest. According to him, the Majority Leader Mr. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu cannot accuse the Minority of being evil-minded.

He indicated that the issues raised by the caucus against the Dr. Addison and his two deputies, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari and Elsie Addo Awadzi are substantial and not matters being concocted by the Minority.

“The dog has given itself a bad name. The financial statement of the Bank of Ghana for 2022 has stated clearly that the Bank of Ghana has suffered a loss of GHC60 billion while trying to acquire an ultra-modern office for US$250million,” he added.

Mr Ablakwa listed the investigation into the leaked tape recording to oust the IGP, the embezzlement of funds for the construction of the national cathedral among others as some of the motions raised by the Minority single-handedly in Parliament.

“There was no single NPP MP but ideally, you will wish that you receive a bi-partisan support whiling filing our motion but the NPP has refused,” he noted.

Meanwhile, leadership of the Minority says it is waiting for Parliament to resume sitting and table its motion before a formal parliamentary setting.
