Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, has criticised the Minority for seeking the removal of Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The Minority Caucus at a press conference on Tuesday called for the immediate removal of Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, citing repeated diplomatic missteps that have left Ghana exposed internationally.

Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh accused the Minister of incompetence and failure to manage Ghana’s international relations effectively.

“Ghana has always been a model of stability and reliability abroad,” he said. “Under this Minister, that reputation is collapsing. We are now listed as a ‘migration risk’ by the United States and facing diplomatic setbacks with Israel and Europe—all preventable.”

“The Minority therefore calls on the President to remove Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa from the Foreign Affairs portfolio immediately and appoint a competent diplomat with proven experience, steady judgment and a genuine commitment to Ghana’s long-term interests over personal political theatre,” he stated.

However, the Majority at a press conference on Wednesday, January 21,, 2026 said the Minority’ call is misguided.

Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije explained that the Minister has been active on the international front, engaging partners on issues about creating jobs and attracting investors into the country.

He further added that the decision by President of the United States, Donald Trump to issue restrictions on immigrant visas for 75 countries including Ghana has no bearing on the Minister’s action and he cannot be held responsible.

“We are here this morning to say that his statement is misguided to make those conclusions. We are here to say that we support the Minister for Foreign Affairs in his work. All Ghanaians have seen what he is doing. About creating job opportunities for our youth in foreign circles, about visa issues in this country.

“U.S has made a decision on immigrant visas, 75 countries so why would my Deputy Ranking Member conclude that Ghana is affected because of the activities of the Foreign Affairs Minister. Where is that coming from? This is a decision by the President of the United States, how do you hold our foreign affairs minister responsible?” he stated.

The Majority Caucus urged Ghanaians to disregard the Minority’s call.
