The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to construct fire stations and posts in their districts.

The Service says such move will enable them to equip these stations with personnel and fire equipment.

The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer for the GNFS, DO3 Peter Addai, made the call in an interview with Onua TV/FM Maakye on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

He was giving details of the number of fire equipment the region has in fighting fire.

DO3 Addai said the entire Ashanti region has 28 fire stations and posts which is a short fall of 15 fire stations in the region.

“The region has 28 fire stations and posts and we have 43 districts in the region. So we are appealing to the MMDAs to build fire stations in their districts,” DO3 Addai explained in Twi.

He said “the fire service can bring in personnel and equipment after building these stations and posts.
If they don’t have fire stations and there is fire, we have to travel for more miles before we can fight the fire,” he added.

DO3 Addai said “the personnel can even do more education of fire which will even prevent fire before we send personnel to these places.”
