A Presidential Staffer, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has said that President John Dramani Mahama continues to demonstrate extraordinary courage and visionary leadership, promoting Ghana on the global stage and strengthening the country’s image.
She stated that during the recent visit to China for the Global Leaders Meeting on Women, President Mahama shared Ghana’s success story of “Resetting the Ghanaian Economy” and his vision for “ The Ghana We Want.”
She recalled that the President emphasised to the Chinese Government, business partners, and investors that Ghana is open for business.
“In a highly strategic bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping, both leaders agreed to deepen cooperation in addressing the crisis of illegal mining and to promote sustainable mining practices that safeguard the environment. In a rare and symbolic speech, President Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to clean markets and renewable energy, announcing a pledge of 200 million Chinese Yuan towards the construction of the Aflao Market. The two leaders also underscored the importance of finalizing and implementing the 0% tariff agreement by October 2025 a milestone that would make Ghana only the second African country to conclude such a deal with China. This landmark agreement will usher in a new era of enhanced, unimpeded trade between the two nations. Notably, China remains Ghana’s largest bilateral trading partner, with 2024 trade volumes exceeding US$11.8 billion,: Bawah Mogtari wrote on her X page.
As AU Champion for Gender and African Financial Institutions, she added, President Mahama also made a powerful case for African women entrepreneurs to receive targeted support, capacity-building, and training under President Xi’s US$100 million package for 50,000 women.
On infrastructure, she said, many Chinese investors have expressed keen interest in supporting Ghana’s 24-hour economic model, as well as in participating in major infrastructure projects including roads, railways, and factory construction that will further accelerate Ghana’s industrial and economic growth, creating wealth and jobs.
“I keep saying that this is a great time to be a citizen of Ghana and an even greater time to witness our nation’s transformation into one of the world’s most influential allies on the African continent,” she said.
