Monday morning’s downpour injured four persons, including a six months old baby, after the cemetery wall at Kasoa Zongo collapsed.

Three of the injured were traders who sell at the Kasoa Old market in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

According to mother of the six months old baby, she was setting up her stall behind the cemetery wall to go and sell when the wall broke at the onset of the rains.

She said they screamed for the intervention of some men before they were able to rescue the victims from the debris.

The six months old baby is currently receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic with the two others, whilst another was to be transferred to the Korle-Bu or 37 Military Hospital as at the time this report was being filed.

“My daughter sells here so she said she just saw the wall falling off and she jumped. The rain had started and the wind was blowing so there were no passers-by. I was conversing with Hajia here because she was also setting up her wares. She was out of sight all of a sudden so I started screaming, ‘where is Hajia?’.

“Then we saw her under the fallen wall so I started screaming for help and some men came over to lift the blocks off her. I saw blood oozing from her nose and all she could do was to gesture her hand. Some debris also fell on my son, Desmond’s leg and he tried getting up himself but couldn’t until we lifted the blocks.

“There was another lady selling mangoes whose shoulder was also hit by a block. They’ve been taken to the hospital. Desmond’s leg is broken so they are taking care of him at the polyclinic. What I’m hearing is that they want to transfer Hajia to either Korle-Bu or 37 Military Hospital,” the eyewitness whose son was a victim narrated in Twi.
