The Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, Francis Asenso Boakye, has turned up the heat on the government over the poor state of the Metro Mass Transit system at Abrepo Junction in the Ashanti Region.

In Parliament yesterday, October 31, 2025, the Bantama MP directly questioned the Minister for Transport on the concrete measures being taken to revitalise the transport system, improve efficiency, enhance commuter access, and generate local employment.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Asenso-Boakye framed the inquiry as a push for accountability and tangible results from the government.

Political commentators see the move as a strategic assertion of oversight, putting pressure on the Ministry to deliver real improvements in public transport; an issue that affects thousands of daily commuters in one of the country’s busiest regions.

The Minister’s response is now highly anticipated, as residents and stakeholders watch closely to see if promised reforms will translate into action on the ground.

In another development, the Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has taken a firm stance against traders who deliberately decided not to take part in the monthly clean-up exercise.

As part of the city’s sanitation efforts, the Mayor ordered the closure of shops in the central business district until 2:00pm on November 1, 2025, for the traders’ blatant disregard for the clean-up exercise.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has been working tirelessly to promote a clean and healthy environment in the city.

KMA BOSS expressed disappointment that despite previous warnings and appeals, many traders chose not to participate in the clean-up exercise.

To address this issue, the KMA has implemented strict measures, including the closure of non-compliant shops and the arrest of anyone attempting to open their business without permission.

The clean-up exercise, which began at 6:00am, aims to restore cleanliness and order to the city’s major thoroughfares and market areas. Key locations affected by the temporary closure include:
– Zoo Roundabout through Pampaso to Otumfuo Roundabout

– Otumfuo roundabout – through Acheamfour Market
– MTN Roundabout to St. Louis College
– Otumfuo Roundabout to Dr. Mensah
– Boss FM through Central Market
– Asafo Interchange and Asafo Market area.
– Roman Hill Down through Aboabo Station to Alabar.

The KMA has cautioned that traders who fail to participate in the clean-up exercise will face penalties, including fines.

Mr Boadi stressed that the Assembly will not tolerate disobedience and will take all necessary measures to ensure compliance. “If strict measures are not taken against them, traders will not take the sanitation day seriously,” he said.

The KMA appeals to all residents, traders, and commercial drivers to participate actively in the clean-up exercise and work together to maintain a clean and healthy environment in Kumasi. The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and environmentally sustainable city and expects the support of all stakeholders.

By taking a firm stance against non-participation, the Kumasi Mayor aims to promote a culture of civic responsibility and community involvement in maintaining the city’s cleanliness and overall well-being.
