The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana has maintained the policy rate at 14.0%.
This was announced by the Chair of the MPC, Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, during the 130th MPC press conference in Accra on Wednesday, May 20.
Regarding the domestic economy, Dr Asiama stated that economic activities strengthened in the first quarter of 2026.
He also stated that both consumer and business confidence, though high, have softened.
Regarding the banking sector, Dr Asiama stated that the sector performance improved significantly
Asset growth was largely driven by investment, he said. He however said that elevated credit risks remain a key concern.
The MPC noted that the ongoing Middle East conflict broadly weakened global growth.
