Nana Appiah Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of defunct MenzGold Ghana Limited has revealed his intentions to go to the Ghana Police Service to retrieve the GHC2.5million given to them for distribution to customers.

NAM 1 as he is known says he is not in support of the Police depositing the money to the Bank of Ghana.

According to him, his intent of bringing the police into the matter was to provide security for disbursement of the money and not to deposit it with the central bank.

He has disclosed that that was not part of the arrangement he made with peace enforcement agency.

“The intent was not to give money to the police to distribute. We went to the police because we wanted security. The agreement with the police was to have them provide a desk where we could distribute the money,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Starr FM.

“I am surprised the money has been deposited at the Bank of Ghana. I will go back to the police and ask them to give the money back to me because that was not the arrangement we had,” Nana Appiah Mensah added.

The police in a statement issued Tueday, October 24, 2023, said they had deposited the money given to them by the NAM 1 at the Bank of Ghana upon advice by the Attorney-General. The money was received on Friday, October 20, 2023, according to the statement from the police.

The money, as the police indicated, was deposited in the Police Exhibit account at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for the attention of the Court.

The amount was part of investigations into petitions received from some customers of MenzGold Ghana Company Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Limited, currently before the Accra High Court against Nana Appiah Mensah.

“We would like to state that the decision on the disbursement of the money would be determined by the court,” the statement concluded.
