John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has asked the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, not to buy into what he describes as the “fake news” being spread to tarnish his image.

John Mahama says the presidency has instituted a fake news outlet at the Office of the President to cover up its failed campaign by tarnishing his hard earned reputation.

At a visit to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi Tuesday, December 03, 2024, during his tour to the Ashanti region, John Mahama debunked a fake news audio suggesting he orchestrated the attack on the Asantehene’s convoy whilst returning from a funeral from Nkoranza.

He said there is an AI-generated audio making rounds on social media mimicking his voice as the person behind the attack on the Asantehene’s convoy in Techiman.

He told the Otumfuo that the allegations were cooked from the presidency to tarnish his image, urging the Asante overlord to disregard it.

“There is something called fake news where one can use computer technology to do something that if someone hears, they will think it is your voice. This morning I saw one on my phone with my picture on it using a voice like mine saying things that are not true.

“But in all these, the seat of government is involved. They have a department whose job is to spread that fake news. This morning I heard them saying I have asked some youth to pelt Otumfuo’s convoy with stones,” he stated.

He denied the allegations saying “because their campaign has failed, they have resorted to spreading propaganda and fake news. Nana, all these are not true and I know God knows the heart of all men.”

He expressed his commitment towards a peaceful campaign and elections, expressing optimism for the NDC in the upcoming polls.

“It is God who chooses a king and I know He will appoint a leader who will come and redeem the nation from the poor economic state this government has rendered the nation,” he added.
