The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has begun the nationwide distribution of parliamentary ballot papers, beginning with Greater Accra on November 14 and extending to other regions in the coming days.
The EC has implemented a secure storage protocol, with ballot papers stored under police protection in each regional headquarters until election day.
The EC’s distribution schedule includes the Central, Western, Savannah, and Upper West Regions, which will receive their ballots on Friday, November 15, followed by Ashanti, Ahafo, and Western North Regions on Saturday.
Each phase of the distribution process is being closely monitored by party agents and EC officials to ensure accountability and transparency.
Gladys Pinkrah, Greater Accra Regional EC Director, explained that the ballot papers would be kept at the Regional Police Headquarters until presidential ballots arrive next week.
The EC has reassured political parties and the public that these secured locations are under 24-hour protection, with only authorized personnel having access to the ballots.
Political party representatives from both the NPP and NDC have expressed their satisfaction with the EC’s stringent security approach.
“Having the ballots under Police custody until election day reassures us of the process’s integrity,” one party representative commented.
On election day, the ballots will be released to officials in the presence of party representatives, adding another layer of transparency to the EC’s handling of election materials.
