National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has stressed the party does not take for granted, the confidence reposed in the party by Ghanaians.

He says this is evident in the votes the party obtained in the 2024 general elections, saying the NDC is humbled for such overwhelming support from the citizenry.

Asiedu Nketia made the comments while speaking to community members and party supporters at Nkonsia in the Wenchi constituency of the Bono Region, during his ‘Thank You’ tour of the area.

He acknowledged the level of support the NDC secured in Wenchi in both the presidential and parliamentary polls, describing the outcome as impressive and reassuring.

The two-day tour, which began in Nkonsia in the Wenchi Municipality, is aimed at engaging community leaders and party faithful to strengthen the NDC’s relationship with the people and consolidate its grassroots support.

He commended the people of Wenchi for the massive support they gave the NDC in the 2024 elections and urged them to continue rallying behind the party to help drive development in the area and restore Wenchi to its former prominence.

Mr Nketiah stressed that it was the collective responsibility of the people to lift Wenchi back to its rightful place, noting that while the task ahead was demanding, they should remain focused and determined.

He further said the government was aware of the poor state of roads in the area, which informed the awarding of contracts for the Wenchi–Wa road, the inclusion of the Wenchi–Sampa Road under the “Big Push” initiative, and plans to work on the Nsawkaw–Berekum road.

According to him, the completion of these projects would bring significant transformation and improve connectivity between Wenchi and other parts of the region.

Alhaji Haruna Seidu, Member of Parliament for the Wenchi, said the area had witnessed remarkable improvements within just one year of the current administration.

Nana Damoah Koasane Adusi Poku Kafabaae IV, the Wenchi Akyeamehene, also commended the government for its development initiatives and appealed to the authorities to prioritise addressing youth unemployment as part of efforts to advance the socio-economic development of the country.
