The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has acknowledged the challenge ahead in the 9th Parliament following the caucus composition of the House.

He says the overwhelming majority of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will pose a challenge to parliamentary proceedings.

According to him, the large numbers will make it difficult to whip up the caucus to prioritise national interest at the expense of party interest.

However, Mr. Bagbin has assured that he will work diligently to expunge partisan politics from parliamentary activities.

Addressing the media after the presidential inauguration in Accra Tuesday, January 07, 2025, he reemphasised his commitment to upholding the principles of democracy as leader of the Legislature.

He said the collective interest of the citizens, irrespective of the political affiliation, is what matters him, and that is what he seeks to champion in the next Parliament.

“I never take anything for granted because the large numbers we have coming from the NDC is also a challenge, and I should be able to get them to focus more on national interests.

“The collective interests of all Ghanaians, whether you are NDC, NPP, PNC, or independent, that is what matters to me, and that will be a challenge,” he indicated.
