The selection of the former Minister of Education, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as running mate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is nothing but for “cosmetic politics.”

The New Patriotic Party who is making the assertion says the Professor has done nothing to show for in her home region, but just for populism sake, the NPP intends to patronise residents of the region for selecting a candidate amongst them.

The NPP has accused the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) for not initiating a single monumental project in the region to give the NDC a reason for selecting her as their running mate, if not for cosmetic politics.

Speaking to the media Friday, April 19, 2024, Leader of the Majority, Alexander Afenyo-Markin maintained the NPP has many records to show for in the Central region, having appreciated the essence of governance which focuses on identifying the challenges of the people and developing initiatives to alleviate them.

“To what effect is the selection of that running mate from the region? Is it the politics of it or it is for the benefit of the people of the Central region. We dare say that it is for the cosmetic politics of it. Because the running mate herself cannot point to a single infrastructure that she initiated and got implemented successfully in the region.

“So why do you come and tell them that you’ve got them a running mate. That is not what governance is about. Governance is about alleviating poverty, introducing projects that will help the people and their suffering. So beyond the people bringing back the running mate who cannot point to a particular initiative in the region, I believe that it is just their normal politics,” he told the media.
