Workers of NEDCo-VRA have withdrawn services in the greater Tamale Metropolis effective today July 31, following attack on staff on Thursday July 30, 2025.

The decision follows attack on official vehicles of VRA/NEDCo which were stopped and seized by residents with some drivers allegedly assaulted.

The company says several attacks have been carried out against its properties and staff recently.

Information gathered by 3News.com reveal that the attack and seizure of the vehicles was as a result of failure by the Managing Director of NEDCo/VRA to reinstate a transferred staff despite the intervention of the King of Dagbon Ya-Na Abukari II.

After days of the Managing Director’s refusal to reinstate the staff, the Ya-Na referred the matter to the paramount Chief of tamale Gulkpe-Na to invite the MD to plead with him to reverse the transfer which according to them, the MD failed to appear before the Gulkpe Na after several attempts.

The youth who feel uneasy about the situation started seizing vehicles of the company moving around town and parked them at Gukpena Palace.

The workers have made the following demands:

  • NEDCo Management, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, must ensure that the perpetrators of the assault are identified and brought to justice.
  • We demand an explanation for why innocent staff of VRA/NEDCo were assaulted, beaten severely, and almost killed.
  • There should be a firm commitment and assurance from all relevant stakeholders regarding the safety and protection of VRA/NEDCo staff and properties.
  • The security agencies must immediately retrieve the seized NEDCo vehicles parked at Gukpena Palace.
