Former Minister of Youth and Sports Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye says for the Black Stars to go to the World Cup and make an impression, the team will need to consider every Ghanaian footballer playing everywhere.

The former footballer said the best ones must then be assembled to represent the country at the mundial to be hosted in Canada, Mexico and the United States of America (USA).

He pointed out that the current crop of Black Stars players, despite playing at top levels in European club football, cannot be compared to the “exceptional” 2010 cohort.

For him, the likes of former England youth players Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi are needed more now than ever before because the Black Stars find themselves in the same group as England’s Three Lions.

“The good thing is that we are going to play against England,” he said on Onua TV‘s flagship morning show Maakye.

“It will rather give us a psychological advantage over them. They won’t have that overconfidence.

“Imagine having Jordan [Ayew], [Antoine] Semenyo, Eddie Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi in attack! It makes us stronger.”

Ghana will be playing at their fifth FIFA World Cup in 2026 when the tournament starts in Mexico, Canada and the United States.

The Black Stars will play in Group L with Panama, England and Croatia.

The former sports broadcaster observed that playing as a team is key if the Black Stars can make it out of the group.

He said Coach Otto Addo should be maintained but given enough support in order to deliver at the World Cup.
