The Ghana Police Service has intensified its security measures in the Nkwanta municipality of the Oti region to restore calm and ensure public safety in the enclave. 

This follows recent attacks in the municipality that resulted in the deaths of people with others sustaining injuries.

In a statement issued by the Oti Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service on Saturday, June 20, 2026, it said the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed a Special Operations Support Team to the area to restore peace.

According to the statement, the attacks in the Nkwanta South Municipality led to the loss of lives and left several people injured, prompting the Police Administration to strengthen security operations in the municipality.

The statement explained that the Special Operations Support Team were dispatched from the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Saturday, June 20, to reinforce existing security arrangements and support efforts to maintain law and order while investigations continue.

It urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel, assuring residents of their continued presence and vigilance of security agencies.

Residents were also encouraged to provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations into the incidents.

“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring peace within the municipality,” the statement emphasized.
