The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has refuted claims that ten directors have been asked to stay home while still receiving full salaries.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, COCOBOD responded directly to allegations describing them as “misleading representations.”

The claim is reported to have been made by Fiifi Boafo, the former Head of Public Affairs at the organisation, during a media interview where he stated that several directors had been rendered “almost useless” and sidelined from active duty since the change of government.

But the statement issued by the Public Affairs Department of COCOBOD dismissed such allegations.

“Management wishes to state emphatically that no Director has been asked to stay home and draw salary,” the statement clarified.

Mr. Boafo had made the remarks during an interview on Accra-based Citi FM on Tuesday, August 19, stating that more than 10 directors were at home doing no meaningful work, despite receiving regular salaries.

But COCOBOD argues that the claims are baseless. According to the statement, no director is currently on leave, except the former Director of Finance, who, COCOBOS says had not taken leave for eight years and is now doing so as per standard administrative procedure.

The Board also explained that any new transfers within the organisation’s leadership are geared towards strategic realignment aimed at improving performance.

“Management wishes to state that transfers and reassignments are part of strategic realignment to bring efficiency and effectiveness into the operations of the Board,” the statement added.
