The New Patriotic Party has begun releasing results from its nationwide flagbearer elections, and in the Asawase Constituency, former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged winner.
Dr Bawumia polled the highest number of votes at the Asawase voting centre, beating his closest contenders in one of the party’s most keenly contested constituencies.
The atmosphere at the Asawase polling centre was charged as delegates queued to cast their ballots in the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer election.
Party officials supervised the process, while security personnel were on hand to maintain order.
At the close of voting and counting, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was declared winner in the constituency with 662 votes.
Dr Bryan Acheampong polled 160 votes whilst Kennedy Agyapong secured 150 votes.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum had 1 vote with Kwabena Agyei Agyapong getting 5 votes.

Supporters of the former Vice President celebrated the victory, describing it as a sign of growing confidence in his leadership.
“This win is to tell the NDC that 2028 presidential election is a done deal for Dr Bawumia. For now, we will work towards burying our differences and go into election 2028 with a united front”, former presidential staffer, Ali Surah emphasized.

The NPP is expected to officially declare its flagbearer after results from all constituencies are collated and verified.
Party leadership has appealed to all aspirants and their supporters to remain calm and uphold unity as the process continues.
