A 2028 flag bearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Bryan Abbey Acheampong, has filed his nomination to contest the presidential candidacy of the party ahead of the next general elections.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, he said, “Today, I officially file my nomination to lead the New Patriotic Party into a new era of unity, renewal, and bold leadership.”
The former Minister of National Security noted in his post that he foresees an NPP under his leadership inspired by “humility, conviction, and unwavering faith” in accomplishing their goal of reclaiming power in unity.
He quoted Joshua chapter 1, verse 9 to express his faith and courage in the upcoming race, while calling on members to come together to rebuild the party.
“As Scripture declares: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Let us rise together in unity and purpose to rebuild our Party.”
Dr. Acheampong, including other presidential aspirants, will be required to pay an amount of GH¢600,000 in non-refundable nomination and filing fees.
This financial requirement was outlined in a notice issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on July 29, 2025.

Following the successful acquisition of the nomination forms, aspiring candidates will then be required to pay a Filing Fee of Five Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢500,000). This too must be paid in a Bankers Draft, made out to the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA.
In addition to these two fees, the notice also stated that an Aspiring Presidential Candidate “shall be required to pay a Development Fee as determined by the National Council.” The specific amount for this Development Fee was not disclosed in the notice.
The Presidential Primary, which is the National Congress to elect the Party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2028 general elections, is scheduled to be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
