About 26 market women groups from the Ahafo and Ashanti regions have called on President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Vice President to select a female running mate for the party in the upcoming elections.

The call, which was extended to the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to the women, is based on the selection of Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, by John Dramani Mahama as running mate for the National Democratic Congress.

According to them, a woman will help in addressing their concerns more if she becomes a Vice President.

They also complained about the male-dominated leadership of the party which they said is not adequately serving the holistic interest of the women who constitute the majority of the party’s membership and the country’s population as a whole.

“Our plea to President Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia and leadership of the NPP is to get us a female running mate this year since the Vice Presidents have always been males. The NDC has chosen a woman and we the NPP also need a woman. And a woman from the Ashanti region who has passion for market women and has aided women in so many ways. Such is the kind of woman we need to partner the flag bearer to help alleviate the plight of we the women,” Ama Brago said on behalf of the Ashanti Markets women groups.

The Ahafo women’s group warns they are ready to vote for the NDC to support the woman agenda in leadership if the NPP’s leadership fails to choose a female running mate from the Ashanti region.
