The leadership and members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) working in Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have called for the nullification of the suspension of their Chief Executive Officer, Dr Paa Kwesi Aidoo.

They are of the view that the two-week suspension of the Chief Executive Officer per directives of the Minister of Health is unnecessary.

According to them, the suspension is not the solution to the enormous pressure, infrastructural challenges, congestion, inadequate logistics, and resource constraints c onfronting the hospital on a daily basis.

This is contained in a press release dated June 6.

“We therefore call immediate withdrawal of the suspension of the CEO of KATH and empowering him to manage the hospital to save lives and preserve the physical and mental health of health professionals working in the hospital especially those at the emergency department,” they demanded.

The GRNMA further requested that “The Ministry of Health must expedite the operationalization of the long-awaited health facilities intended to decongest and ease the burden on KATH.

It also appealed for urgent retooling of KATH and its referral facilities, infrastructural expansion and adequate resource allocation to enable KATH function effectively as a true Centre of Excellence comparable to internationally recognized tertiary hospitals.

The GRNMA threatened that “effective 8:00am 7th June 2026 Nurses and Midwives at KATH will join the strike if the directive from the Honourable Minister for Health is not reversed.”

“In view of this, we hope that the Board of KATH will take the necessary steps to ensure peace and harmony in the hospital and avert any wide scale industrial action that will gravely affect the delivery of health services in the hospital,” they urged.
