The Commercial National Motor (Okada) Riders Union has stated that its members will not be part of the strike action to be embarked upon by commercial transport operators on August 21, 2025.

The Okada riders assured passengers that they will offer a safe alternative means of transport on that day.

The commercial transport operators have threatened to embark on the industrial action to protest the current state of the Ofankor-Sawam stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The road is in a deplorable state due to stalled work which resulted from non-payment of the contractors. Although the Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Agbodza says money has been released, the Chairman of the Contractors Association, Stephen Kwaku Attatsi says it will take a while before they can return to site.

In a press release dated August 18 and signed by Akpanaba Solomon, the Okada Riders said, “While we regret about the appalling nature of the above stated jurisdiction route which has gained its notoriety among Ghanaians, we want to inform Ghanaians. especially our members and their passengers that as we remained a De Facto alternative transport group, we are not allowed by law to join the planned striking transport operators come Thursday (21st August, 2025).

They added that, “We hereby notify all Ghanaians, especially those who may be stranded on that day due to the strike, to make good use of the availability of our services. We want to assure the general public that our services are improved, in terms of safety and other concerns. We pray that government will respond swiftly to the demands of the striking trio, or the strike should continue, while we are also making good use of this opportunity.
