A shooting incident at Taifa Junction, a suburb of Accra Wednesday morning, September 20, 2023, has claimed one life and injured several others.

The violence saw the blocking of roads and burning of tyres by traders at the wood village claiming their business was at risk following an eviction from their shops by their landlord.

TV3’s Godwin Asediba reported on Midday Live that the injured according to eyewitnesses who confirmed the death of their colleague had been transproted to the hospital for medical attention.

He explained that the unrest was triggered after the landlord sent land guards to the area to confront traders at the Ofankor Moose along the Accra – Nsawam road.

Reports indicate the wood sellers have been paying rent to the landlord for the past three years and yet went ahead to evict them.

Meanwhile, police have restored calm and reinforced security in the area. The affected road has also been reopened to normal traffic.

In a brief statement, the police confirmed that they are actively investigating the incident to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The police arrived at the scene on time when the land guards allegedly sent by the landlord started firing gunshots upon reaching the place.
