The Offinso Municipal Assembly has raised concerns over the number of crashes that have been recorded in the first month of 2026, barely 15 days into the year with 11 casualties.

Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi with Sir John, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the Offinso Municipal Chief Executive, Frank Owusu Amoah, noted that, road traffic crashes on Offinso – Kumasi and Offinso – Techiman is a worry to people on the stretch .

Barely two weeks into 2026, the area is already recording a worrying number of road accidents, raising concern among motorists, road safety experts, and the general public.

The sudden surge has come as a surprise, particularly after the country experienced relatively fewer accidents during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Several serious incidents have already been recorded across the Offinso area.

On the Offinso – Abofour road in the Ashanti Region, a commercial bus travelling from Techiman to Kumasi crashed into a broken – down cement truck near Samproso. Seven people died instantly and one other died at the St Patrick Hospital at Offinso.

Many others sustained serious injuries. This accident happened on January 7, 2026.

On the 12th of January, three people were burnt to ashes in an accident on Offin river bridge in the Offinso Municipality.

The Offinso Municipal Chief Executive, Frank Owusu Amoah, expressed serious concern over the increasing rate of road accidents in the area.

According to him, the major causes of road accide is in the area have to do with driver and pedestrian indiscipline.

He lamented the alarming number of accidents ,emphasizing the urgent need for corrective measures.

“I’m not happy with what is happening on our roads now. There is a need to show concern about the state of accidents in our area,” he stated.

He agreed that “Road safety in the country is bedevilled by pre-crash challenges such as the general indiscipline of road users, poor road design and construction, exponential increase in motorcycle-related crashes and casualties, weak enforcement of road traffic regulations.

“The post-crash challenges accounting for lives on the roads in my area include ,driver indiscipline and others.”

He said they have Municipal Security meeting to help address the issue.

They include the Ghana Highway Authority, Driver Vehicle and License Authority, the Department of Urban Roads, Department of Feeder Roads, and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.

We will engage some stakeholders in the area on how best to address accidents on the road. He said the effective collaboration between the various stakeholders was necessary to deal with the menace of accidents on the road.
