The dismissal of Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang as Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is part of the government’s ongoing restructuring.

A statement from the Office of the President signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, said Saturday, April 13, 2024.

The statement clarified that, Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang was not ousted from the office as a result of misconduct or financial impropriety as being speculated in the media.

“C ontrary to some speculations in the media, the Office of the President would like to place on record that the exit of Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang from the position of Director-General of SSNIT had nothing to do with any form of misconduct or malfeasance on his part,” the statement noted in some parts.

“Indeed, Dr Ofori-Tenkorang’s exit from office is part of the ongoing restructuring of Government being undertaken by President Akufo-Addo,” it added.

According to Eugene Arhin, President Akufo-Addo is satisfied with Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang’s services to the nation in his administration, having championed an “impressive transformation” during his tenure as Director-General of the Trust.

“The President thanks him for his services to the nation,” the statement concluded.

Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang was ousted as Director-General of SSNIT Monday, April 08, 2024, through a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante.

The letter, even though did not state the reason for Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang’s dismissal, referred to paragraph 8 of his appointment –which is not known –as the reason for the termination of his role.

He was asked to hand over to Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, son of former Senior Minister and now Senior Advisor to the President, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, on Monday, April 15, 2024.
