The new Chairman of the Management Committee of the Black Stars, Dr Randy Abbey, says the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a decision to stick with Head Coach Otto Addo.

He, however, indicated that there will be changes to the backroom staff.

“I think that the GFA has taken a decision already,” he revealed on Accra-based Original FM on Wednesday, January 22.

“I think the FA is keeping Otto Addo and there are going to be changes in terms of his backroom staff.”

He explained further that the decision was as a result of the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“Immediately, it’s about the World Cup qualifiers that start in March and to ensure that the poor trend of results that led to the non-qualification to AFCON, we would be able to change course and put the Black Stars back on the winning path,” he said slightly in Twi.

Otto Addo, who made a return to the Black Stars after guiding the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, came under fire for the failure to qualify the team to this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana failed to win a single match in the qualifiers, losing at home to Angola and Niger.

A meeting was, thus, scheduled between the coach and the Executive Council of the GFA in November last year for his technical report.

This is said to have been discussed and the way forward decided.

Reports are that two assistant coaches – John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann – will be the major casualties in the changes to the backroom staff.
