The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei-Asare, has commended the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, for his performance during his appearance before the Committee.

She avers audits should not be seen as a tool to vilify individuals but as a mechanism to correct systems and improve procedures.

Speaking during a working visit to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, while outlining the purpose of the Committee’s engagement with the Authority, she said she was impressed with the CEO’s grasp of issues.

“But I must say that I was really impressed with your CEO when he came for the public accounts hearing,” she said.

She disclosed that the NPA boss was able to respond to all questions posed to him regarding the Authority’s operations and the Unified Petroleum Price Fund (UPPF) audit.

“Where it’s good I’ll gladly commend you and when it’s bad too I won’t mince words. I was so impressed also with the audit on the UPPF. Yes, I take you to the left you are able to answer, I bring it to the center you give me good responses and to the right same,” she recounted.

According to her, public officials must ensure that audit findings translate into concrete actions.

“Audits must lead to certain actions that correct system, correct procedures and make things better. That is all the audit is about, is not to vilify anybody,” she said.

She added that where necessary, recoveries and sanctions must be enforced.

“But then where we find that we can recover certain things we recover, where we need to strengthen systems we do that and where obviously there are breaches, sanctions must be carried out,” she stressed.
