The 2024 Olympic Games are set to officially open today, Thursday, July 26 in the French capital of Paris.
Approximately 10,714 athletes are expected to take part in the Games, which are the 33rd edition since its inception.
Paris will be hosting the multi-sport event for the third time since the first edition in 1896 in Athens. The French capital hosted the 1900 and 1924 Games.
The opening ceremony is expected to take four-and-a-half hours, starting 1730GMT.
It will be graced by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Jardins du Trocadero and the Seine.
The ceremony will be the first to take place in an open space, outside a stadium.
The athletes parade is expected to start from the Austerlitz bridge beside the Jardin des Plantes and make its way around two islands at the centre of the city before before passing under several bridges and gateways.
The 33rd Olympics will be for a period of 16 days, scheduled to end on Sunday, August 11.
