Nana Yaa Jantuah, former Director of Public Relations and External Affairs at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), has called on Parliament to impeach President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

She stressed that when the President is removed from office, he will be unable to peddle untruths on serious issues confronting the country.

Naa Yaa Jantuah’s call follows President Akufo-Addo’s assertion that the erratic power supply (Dumsor), which has bedevilled the country over the past few weeks, has been resolved effectively.

President Akufo-Addo, while addressing organised labour at the annual May Day celebration in Accra yesterday [Wednesday, May 1], expressed confidence in the work done in the energy sector to ensure a stable power supply.

According to the President, the entire country did not experience load-shedding (dumsor) on Tuesday, April 30, indicating that the power situation has improved significantly.

President Akufo-Addo further noted that “issues surrounding the maintenance of the transformers have been resolved,” leading to a stable power supply across the country.

However, the former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Yaa Jantuah, bemoaned the President’s lack of appreciation of reality.

She said, “I don’t understand the behaviour of the President…because whoever briefed him? The handlers who briefed him—did they tell him Dumsor is gone? He said Tuesday…and on Tuesday I was in Dumsor wide area, I found out…my lights were off on Tuesday 6 to 6 straight 12 hours that is Dumsor. You cannot describe it as anything but there’s a challenge in the system.”

“Nobody has dumsor on their name, the President himself does not have dumsor on his name, It is a situation that has to be resolved; there’s nothing wrong with the nation going through such a challenge. Accept the challenges and let’s all resolve them.

“Where are we going? We need to do things properly and differently…maybe somebody should impeach the president for us…so that we will not hear these things anymore. The Parliament may…that is the only way. So that when he goes to sit home, somebody should take over,” she told Naa Ashorkor on The Big Issue on TV3 New Day on Thursday.

Asked how impeaching the president would help resolve the power challenges, she said, “Then we will not hear these things, and then we will have somebody who will listen to advice; I don’t know who it is but maybe we don’t have to hear him anymore.”

“Parliament should do us a favour and let President Akufo-Addo go because he has checked out,” she noted.
