Black Stars and Arsenal midfielder Thomas Teye Partey has opened up on the competition in Arsenal’s midfield.

He said there are a lot of players competing to catch the eye of the manager and it is “the mister” who will have the final say regarding selection.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder was speaking after the Gunners’ win, on penalties, over AFC Bournemouth in Los Angeles as part of their pre-season tour. They won 5-4 in the shootouts after the match had ended 1-1.

Admitting the match was tough as it was against a fellow English Premier League side, the Ghanaian answered a few questions on his recurring injury situation.

He conceded that is how life is and has psyched himself up for it.

“I think it’s life,” he said, “things happen sometimes you cannot control. I have to keep going, keep fighting. Every time I fall, I have to come back and that’s the mentality I have and anytime I can help the team I do all my best.”

On the unexpected situation he might lose his position, Partey said: “We have a lot of players in that position.

“Jorgi[nho] is playing good, I am playing good, Dec[lan] is there, Martin and I think we also have other players that can come in and show a difference and I think we have to compete against each other and at the end of the day, [it is] the mister that decides and. . .with this competition, the team can get to the higher level that we want to be.”

Partey made just 14 appearances for the Gunners last season following a long lay-off through injury.
