Facilities for the 13th African Games (Accra 2023) are taking shape as the 100-day countdown to the pan-African sport event begins.
In the second edition of its newsletter, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) gave updates on preparations so far and the recent meeting with newly constituted Technical Committee for the African Games (TCAG).
The 6-kilometer road from School Junction in East Logon to the Games Village in Borteyman is scheduled to be completed by end of December.
“In terms of terms of functional classification, this is an anterior road,” the Development Engineer for Urban Roads, Kofi Nti Appiah-Agyei, is quoted as saying.
“It is a dual carriage lane in each direction. We have a pedestrian walkway along the banks of the road.
“It is part of the roads that we are constructing to give credible access and connection to the Games’ center at Borteyman.
“It will also, be part of the project that will give access to the people from the Northeast part of Accra.”
Portfolio Head for Transportation Samson Deen’s presentation in September on the transportation arrangements for the Games to the TCAG was also captured in the newsletter.
“There is a grand plan to ensure that transportation and movement of athletes, officials and all other patrons will be very smooth during the Games,” he quoted as saying in his presentation.
The Games will begin on Friday, March 8 to Saturday, March 23.
About 13,000 athletes are expected to participate in the multi-sport event.
