Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 98, is remembered for her wisdom, compassion, and dedication to preserving Ashanti customs. She served as Asantehemaa for eight years, a period during which she played a pivotal role in supporting the Golden Stool and the cultural identity of the Asante Kingdom. Her passing has been described as a “great loss” to both Asanteman and the nation.

Heavy Security Presence in Kumasi

The Ashanti Regional capital, particularly the precincts of the Manhyia Palace, has seen heightened security as thousands of mourners troop in for the event. Police and military personnel have been strategically stationed at vantage points across Kumasi to maintain law and order.

Beyond the uniformed officers, plain-clothed security personnel are also patrolling the funeral grounds and city center to deter criminal activity. The sheer number of security operatives deployed has been described by mourners as “overwhelming but reassuring,” with many noting that the presence has ensured a calm and orderly atmosphere.

Concerns had earlier been raised that the large gatherings expected for the observance could attract hoodlums seeking to exploit the situation. However, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured the public that they are fully in control of the security situation.

“The deployment is comprehensive, and nobody should panic,” a police spokesperson said, stressing that the arrangements were put in place to protect both residents and visitors.

From all indications, the measures have proven effective. Reports from the grounds suggest that the heavy police and military presence have deterred criminal activity in and around Manhyia.

As the kingdom mourns the passing of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, today’s observance is as much a celebration of her life and legacy as it is a reaffirmation of the enduring traditions of Asanteman.
