A swift joint operation by local police and counter-terrorism units has led to the arrest of six suspects involved in a targeted highway robbery along the Gulumpe-Kintampo highway.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, when a vehicle carrying a passenger was ambushed along the busy corridor.
According to police, the victim was robbed of over GHC300,000.
Investigators revealed that the operation was an “inside job.” The victim’s driver allegedly coordinated with the gang, using his vehicle to block the path and set up his own passenger before four-armed accomplices.
The driver, along with an accomplice who contracted him, reportedly orchestrated the roadblock and ambush.
Acting on intelligence, local patrol teams and Kintampo-based counter-terrorism units tracked the suspects into the bush.
All four-armed suspects who fled the scene were hunted down and captured.
All six suspects have admitted to the crime during interrogation and are set to appear before a court of competent jurisdiction.
