The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in Obuasi for their alleged involvement in a robbery attack and a separate planned operation targeting a distribution company.
According to police statement, the arrests were carried out by the Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate following credible intelligence about an impending attack in the area.
On April 16, 2026, officers picked up suspect Iddrisu Fuseini, popularly known as “Iddi,” at his hideout in Bedieso, Obuasi.
During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to being part of a six-member gang that robbed an Indian national at his residence in New Baakoyeden on April 12, making away with GH₵150,000.
Police say the attack was facilitated by insider information from an employee of the victim, identified as Ibrahim, who allegedly informed the gang that the victim kept large sums of money at home.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Shaibu Mohammed, also known as “SM” or “Cicinati” on April 20 at Gausu in Obuasi.
He is said to have admitted involvement in planning the robbery and disclosed that the group was preparing to carry out another attack on a distribution company near Mawuli Hotel.
Investigators also revealed that the two suspects are already standing trial at the Obuasi Circuit Court over a separate robbery case involving GH₵600,000.
Police have launched a manhunt for other members of the gang, identified as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim.
Authorities are also working to retrieve a pump-action gun and a locally manufactured pistol believed to be in the suspects’ possession.
The Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining security and has urged residents to volunteer information that could assist in the arrest of the remaining suspects.
