The Ghana Police Service has recovered a Nissan Pick-Up vehicle stolen from the office of the Ablekuma West Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
The vehicle was stolen on Monday, December 09, 2024, by unidentified men who stormed the offices of the outgoing Member of Parliament and made away with valuable items including three motorbikes and a Nissan Pick-Up.
The three-term MP was handed a humiliating defeat in last Saturday’s elections after losing to NDC’s Parliamnetary candidate, Rev. Kweku Addo.
The clergyman won the parliamentary election with 31,866 votes while Madam Owusu-Ekuful trailed with 26,575.
At a media briefing Thursday, December 12, 2024, Head of Public Affairs Directorate for the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi said the vehicle is now at the Dansoman Police Station. The police are also continuing with efforts to get the criminals arrested.
According to the police, 17 more people have been arrested in connection with attacks on offices. This brings to 123, the total number of people arrested in post election disturbances.
The police are also on a manhunt for suspects who vandalised police stations at Techiman in the Bono East and another at Wenchi in the Bono region.
“We’ll like to assure the public that we’ll stop at nothing to get them arrested to face justice. And for those on the run, we want to ask them: How long can you run? And those in hiding how much longer do you intend to endure this self-imprisonment? Whatever you do whatever it takes, We are coming for you and we’ll get you arrested,” she stated.
With the attacks on government agencies continuing, the Ghana Police Service has assured the government workers to feel safe and resume work.
This is after the Head of Civil Service on Wednesday, December 11, issued a directive to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) to take precautionary measures in the line of duty and where the staff feel their lives are threatened, should temporarily close down the offices.
