A Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Eric Bossman Asare, has disclosed that they will distribute copies of the revised voters’ register to political parties and Independent Candidates on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

This decision is in reaction to issues raised by numerous stakeholders about the credibility of the register and its suitability for the December 7 elections.

“For the good people of our country, we have addressed all the concerns that were raised and right now we have informed the political parties that we will have an IPAC meeting with them on Tuesday and in the said meeting, we will present the entire voter’s register to the political parties and other groups on Tuesday. So, we want to request all of them to make themselves available at the meeting,” he said.

Dr Asare noted that giving copies of the voters’ roll to the stakeholders, forms part of their quest to foster trust among them.

The meeting on Tuesday will thus afford the stakeholders a chance assess the register and point out any lingering issues for redress.

Dr Asare assured the public that the EC remains committed to a fair and transparent electoral process. He said this on JoyNews on Saturday, September 28

It would be recalled that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) called for a forensic audit of the register due to suspicions over huge discrepancies in the document. Other stakeholders raised similar concerns.

However, the Electoral Commission denied the request with the explanation that all identified discrepancies in the voters’ roll have been rectified.
