The National Homeownership Fund (NHF) will convene a two-day National Conference on Housing Finance on 7 and 8 October 2026 at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Held under the theme “Adequate Housing for All: Innovative Financing for Ghana’s Housing Future,” the conference will bring together key stakeholders from government, financial institutions, the private sector, development institutions, civil society, academia and local government to examine practical and sustainable approaches to expanding access to housing finance in Ghana.
President John Dramani Mahama, will be the Guest of Honour and is expected to deliver the keynote address at the opening session on 7 October.
The conference comes at a critical time for Ghana’s housing sector, as rising construction costs, limited access to long term finance, high mortgage rates and affordability constraints continue to affect the ability of many households to access adequate housing.
The two-day programme will focus on how Ghana can mobilise and deploy capital more effectively to expand housing opportunities, particularly for low- and middle-income households as we commemorate World Habitat Day 2026.
The National Conference on Housing Finance is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Bank of Ghana and Shelter Afrique Development Bank, together with financial institutions, labour unions and private sector stakeholders.
The National Conference on Housing Finance will examine the current state of Ghana’s housing finance ecosystem and explore innovative approaches that can expand access to sustainable and affordable housing finance.
The conference is expected to culminate in a policy outcomes communiqué setting out practical recommendations to guide policy development, implementation and resource mobilisation for Ghana’s housing sector.
Housing Finance and World Habitat Day
World Habitat Day is observed annually to draw attention to the state of human settlements and to reaffirm the importance of adequate housing as a fundamental component of inclusive and sustainable development.
The 2026 National Conference on Housing Finance reflects Ghana’s commitment to translating this principle into practical action by strengthening the systems, institutions and financing mechanisms required to expand access to adequate and affordable housing.
The conference will therefore provide a platform for stakeholders to move beyond discussion towards identifying actionable financing solutions, institutional reforms and partnerships capable of shaping Ghana’s housing future.
