Professor Christian Agyare has officially assumed office as the 13th Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), on Monday, August 3, 2026.
He succeeds Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, who leaves office after serving as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the Premier Science and Technology University in Ghana.
Professor Agyare joins the leadership of KNUST with more than two decades of academic, research and administrative experience, having served the university in various capacities.
Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, he was the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, KNUST’s largest and most complex academic college.
A Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Professor Agyare is recognised internationally for his research contributions in areas including natural products pharmacology, antimicrobial resistance, wound healing, ethnopharmacology, parasitology and anticancer drug.
In a statement on his Facebook page on Wednesday, August 5,2026, he said transformation is built through partnership, “and lasting progress begins when we listen, collaborate, and work with a shared purpose.”
“I was pleased to receive courtesy visits from the leadership of UTAG, GAUA, SSAK, TEWU-GH, TEWU-TUC (GH), GRASAG, and the SRC. Our conversations centred on strengthening collaboration, promoting the welfare of our university community, and aligning our collective efforts with KNUST’s strategic direction.
I appreciate their commitment, insights, and willingness to work together. By fostering mutual respect, open dialogue, and shared responsibility, I am confident we will create an inclusive environment that advances excellence and positions KNUST for even greater impact,” he wrote.
