Political marketing analyst Professor Kobby Mensah has criticised the government over the launch of the Performance Tracker platform, stating that the platform contains many lapses.

The government officially launched the Performance Tracker on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. The platform aimed at making public the achievements of the government upon assumption of office.

However, the political analyst maintained that the figures put on the website version of the platform are “all gimmicks” to deceive Ghanaians.

Speaking on TV3 News 360, Prof. Mensah said, “I’m wondering whether the minister that actually launched the Performance Tracker actually looked at it by herself and to make the claims that she made.”

“I have since this morning been going through the performance tracker, I can tell you there are so many lapses, so many gaps, the so-called web links that she talked about, the GPS that she talked about, that is pinned, which you can actually locate the project are not existing,” he stated.

He further explained that many of the links, when selected, do not have data available, emphasising that the platform does not produce related projects under thematic sectors of the economy.

“This is completely unacceptable for a government institution to actually launch something that is very deficient. It wouldn’t even pass for an undergraduate project,” said Prof. Mensah.

According to him, the government could do better in its approach to wanting to demonstrate what it has done with the resources of the country. He stressed that the concept is a laudable initiative.

Over 13,000 projects validated

The Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, speaking at the launch, stated that the tracker currently hosts over 13,000 projects nationwide.

The Offoase-Ayirebi lawmaker emphasised that the tracker is an improved version of the Delivery Tracker, which Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia first unveiled in 2020.

The Minister further indicated the Performance Tracker has a user-friendly interface. He described it as a “comprehensive database” that can be accessed via a website and a mobile application.

“As of June 2023, there are over 13, 000 projects across the 261 districts, across the 16 regions, across the 28 ministries that have been validated and updated on this platform.”

He continued by saying that the platform has gone through a thorough validation procedure that included geotagging and taking transparent project photos.

“The performance tracker is a database that showcases the performances of the government of Ghana and it is going to show you the various projects that have been executed across the country. This database has two interfaces; a website and an application. Today the mobile phone is very powerful too and sometimes even beyond what your desktop can do.
